THE DEEPEST SHADE OF GREEN

In scientific terms, the ‘biophilia hypothesis’ proposes that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connection with nature and other forms of organic life as a means of positive wellbeing.

At Melbourne Quarter, we’ve translated this theory into expansive green spaces across vertical and horizontal planes — spaces that will give workers, residents and visitors numerous opportunities to see, touch, smell, hear and connect with nature.  For example, our buildings have been designed to ensure maximum sunlight during the day, and when complete, more than 50 percent of our precinct will allow people to enjoy the open air.

Up high you’ll see our soaring Sky Park, a green oasis for all, suspended above Collins Street and boasting sweeping views of the city. At ground level off Collins Street is our main public square, which, as the precinct evolves, will be surrounded by three office towers, as well as a range of cafes, restaurants and quality food and beverage offerings. The square will be a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with each other and with food, nature and art.

Central to our residential precinct will be Titree Park, complete with sunny views towards the Melbourne CBD skyline. The park will feature a generous lush lawn, seating, as well as a nearby café with outdoor dining and Wi-Fi connectivity, creating respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

As we bring these spaces to life, you’ll be pleased to know that up to 90 per cent of all construction waste will be recycled as part of our Sustainability Action Plan, and 95 per cent of all timber used in building and construction works will also be procured from sources that undertake sustainable land and management practises.

Further, to keep these spaces the brightest shade of green, all stormwater we capture in our rainwater tanks will be recycled for irrigation throughout the public realm. We like to think of initiatives like this as creating a self-sustaining ecosystem — a rarity today in big city life.

At Melbourne Quarter, we’re committed to shooting for the Green Stars. Our precinct has achieved a 6 star Green Star which represents 'world leadership' in sustainability.  Our commercial buildings will also target a 6 star Green Star energy rating, and our residential apartments aim to achieve a 5 star Green Star rating, representing 'Australian excellence' in sustainable design.
